In recent years, genetic testing has become more common in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases such as breast cancer. Genetic testing for mental health conditions has also now become available and parents are faced with the perplexing decision about whether the benefit outweighs the risks of such testing for their kids. For parents with children under 18, this decision can be even more complicated. During this event, we will help caregivers understand:
- What is genetic testing?
- How does it apply to mental health conditions, like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia?
- What are the risks and benefits of getting my child tested? Are they different for minors versus college-age children?
Join Sharon Terry, the Founder, President and CEO of Genetic Alliance, for an engaging discussion on the topic of genetics and youth mental health. A global nonprofit, Genetic Alliance is a leader in deploying high tech and high touch programs for individuals, families, and communities to transform health systems to meet the real needs of patients.
